Alegeri parlamentare 2025

VIDEO // Moldovan president urges citizens to participate in parliamentary elections

Moldova is our home – it always deserves our time and attention. Moldova deserves to be saved every time. Go to vote, for yourselves and for Moldova. President Maia Sandu today conveyed a message to this effect today. She urged citizens to participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections on September 28.

In a video address, the head of state referred to ‘’the difficult years of fighting against a corrupt, dangerous regime that made a mockery of people and our country's image.'

‘’Today, I want to speak to you not as a president, but as a citizen. As a citizen who, ten years ago, decided that she no longer wanted to live in a country led by thieves. And, together with many of you, we set out to overthrow the oligarchic regime. We faced tough years fighting a corrupt, dangerous regime that ridiculed people and our nation's image. It was more challenging than we had imagined, but we did not give up, even when we couldn't see the light at the end of the tunnel. Together, with much effort, one day, we managed to drive the oligarch out of power. But we didn't stop there, because as some thieves were ousted, others, the cronies of their predecessors with godfathers in Moscow, emerged. Four years ago, we succeeded in removing both them and their allies,’’ Maia Sandu said.

The official referred to the process of joining the European Union and the reforms implemented in recent years. Maia Sandu called on citizens for unity and involvement, in order to lead the country towards a better future, in peace.

‘’The situation we inherited was not easy, and neither were we particularly fortunate, as various crises came upon us, and most severely, a war started in our neighborhood. We mobilized. We initiated reforms, stopped schemes and proved to the whole world that Moldovans are decent, courageous people, not thieves and traitors. We got seriously down to work, and other countries saw us and helped us. We finally started the process of joining the European Union. Looking back, these ten years have been very intense, but I know that some of you will say that not enough was done, that they are disappointed, that they no longer have a reason to vote, that they are scared or tired of saving the country. Know that this is what the Kremlin counts on, what the corrupt people count on. Good things are made with difficulty, over decades. Bad things can come upon us overnight. Our actions and inactions always have consequences, let's be aware of them and take responsibility. Moldova is our home – it always deserves our time and attention. Moldova deserves to be saved every time. Go to vote, for yourselves and for Moldova. Moldova, you are beautiful and brave. Move forward to a better future, in peace,’’ Maia Sandu added.

On Sunday, September 28, parliamentary elections will be held in Moldova. Citizens are expected at the polling stations to elect the lawmakers of the future parliament.
