Moldova's Ambassador to Russia summoned at Russian Foreign Affairs Ministry for refusal to accredit Russian representatives as international observers at parliamentary elections

The Russian Foreign Affairs Ministry today summoned Ambassador of Moldova in Moscow, Lilian Darii. The official was handed a note of protest regarding the "unjustified refusal" to accredit representatives of the Russian Federation as international observers at the upcoming September 28 parliamentary elections.

According to a press release by the Russian Foreign Affairs Ministry, it concerns "the accreditation of Russian representatives as short-term observers within the OSCE/ODIHR monitoring mission, as well as members of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation as international observers at the parliamentary elections".

Moscow authorities claim that Moldova’s decision is "incompatible with the democratic values to which the Moldovan leadership declares its commitment" and would represent "a new manifestation of the anti-Russian course." At the same time, the Russian Foreign Ministry informed that it "will challenge the decision at the OSCE/ODIHR leadership level and during the meetings of the OSCE decision-making bodies."

The Moldovan Foreign Affairs Ministry has not yet commented on the information.

At a news conference, Prime Minister Dorin Recean today denounced the Russian Federation's meddling in the context of the parliamentary elections, with the aim "to seize power in Chisinau." The official assured that Moldova would withstand and "will thwart the Russian occupation plan." The PM emphasized that the goal of the actions led by the Russian Federation was "to seize power in Chisinau, violating the sovereign will of the Moldovans."
