
Viorel Ursu to be appointed Moldova's Ambassador to Kingdom of Sweden
Viorel Ursu will be appointed as Ambassador to the Kingdom of Sweden. The parliamentary commission for foreign policy and European integration has approved a positive advisory opinion for his candidacy.
Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popsoi has said that the appointment of the new ambassador was part of Moldova's efforts to strengthen effective and results-oriented diplomacy.
“Viorel Ursu is a diplomat with remarkable experience in European affairs, democratic governance and international cooperation. I am confident that he will substantially strengthen the partnership with the Kingdom of Sweden, a key partner for the development of our country,” emphasized Mihai Popsoi.
Viorel Ursu is a diplomat and expert in European affairs, with over two decades of experience in international relations, democratic development and European Union’s enlargement. At present, he represents Moldova as Ambassador to the United States of America and the United Mexican States, contributing in to deepening relations with these states in the past three years.
Viorel Ursu has earlier acted as Director of the Europe Department at the Open Society Foundation in London, where he coordinated programmes dedicated to good governance, the rule of law, and strengthening civil society. He also served as a senior policy analyst at the Open Society European Policy Institute in Brussels, contributing to the formulation of European policies for the eastern neighborhood.
Ursu began his career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and later was a lecturer at the State University of Moldova, where he taught international law and human rights. He is a graduate of the College of Europe (Poland), with a master's in European studies. He holds a bachelor's degree in law from the State University of Moldova.
