Head of EU Delegation in Moldova has meeting with foreign affairs minister

New European Union Ambassador to Moldova Iwona Piórko has congratulated the Moldovan authorities on the exemplary conduct of the elections, despite external pressures and reiterated the European Union’s full support for Moldova’s advancement in the process of European integration. The head of the EU Delegation in Moldova conveyed a message to this effect at a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs Minister Mihai Popsoi.

During the discussions, the officials reaffirmed the common commitment to maintain an open and dynamic dialogue between Moldova and the European Union, both in the context of the accession process, as well as in the bilateral partnership in the field of security and defense.

“Progress on the European path requires daily efforts on behalf of all institutions involved. The Foreign Affairs Ministry stays firmly committed to maintaining a positive dynamic in Chapter 31 – Foreign, Security and Defense Policy, as well as in strengthening cooperation with the European Union in the field of security and defense,” emphasized Mihai Popsoi.

At the same time, the official thanked the European Union for its constant support for Moldova, including in strengthening institutional resilience, cybersecurity and combating misinformation. The discussions also focused on the holding of the parliamentary elections on September 28, a process in which the Moldovan authorities managed to counteract attempts of external interference.

The discussions also addressed cooperation in the field of security and defense, including the work of the Crisis Response Center, as well as EU’s support in the economic field and energy resilience.

In conclusion, the sides agreed to maintain a constant dialogue and close coordination, in order to advance the accession process and strengthen Moldova’s cooperation with the European Union in political, economic and security fields.

European Union Ambassador to Moldova Iwona Piórko took office in early last  September. The diplomat has earlier emphasized that she arrived in Moldova at a crucial moment in history and reaffirmed the EU's commitment to the country's European path, ensuring that it will be part of the European Union.
