Moldovan infrastructure minister says willing to continue holding position
Chisinau, October 7 /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea, a candidate for the position of MP, could be part of the new government, keeping his portfolio as Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development (MIDR). Bolea has told Realitatea Moldova that he wanted to continue his work at the ministry, At the same time, she avoided commenting on a possible candidacy for the position of prime minister. "I think we should wait for the final result," Bolea said.
The official said that discussions were currently ongoing about the composition of the new cabinet and that his candidacy for the position of Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development would be accepted.
"I think there will be new people, and some ministers from the current government will remain, depending on the number of results and projects implemented at the country level. I don't think it will be long until we know the names of the ministers and the prime minister. From preliminary discussions with colleagues, I will most likely remain at the Ministry of Infrastructure to continue with the Roads – Europe is Closer project. If we talk about my personal wish, I would certainly see myself in this role," the deputy PM noted.
He emphasized that the team formed at MIDR and the experience accumulated in recent years must be leveraged to deliver concrete results to the citizens.
"We have implemented 220 projects out of the 579 at the village level. We have prepared the European Village III programme; we are discussing with mayors the completion of the European Village II project. We will finalize the European Court, where we have 88 projects under implementation and 400 more to be realized in the coming years. All things started on improving living conditions must continue. In the coming years, we will benefit from pre-accession funds for regional development, and we come with a well-formed and experienced team, which must deliver maximum results for ordinary people," Bolea said.
Asked if he was offered the position of prime minister, Bolea said "it is not the time" for such discussions, but expressed his honor being mentioned among potential candidates.
"I like that I am also attributed with such a capacity. Obviously, any soldier wants to be a general, but I don't think it's the case to talk about the position of prime minister and who the candidates are. We need to wait for the final result. There is a lot of speculation, but it pleases me — it means that there is interest on behalf of the society. We need to wait for the validation of the mandates, then the first parliament meeting, where the candidate for prime minister will be publicly announced. This will be followed by creating a government team, a more complex process than merely mentioning a few names," the official emphasized.
The deputy prime minister also said that the next prime minister would have major responsibilities, considering the government's objective of Moldova's accession to the European Union by 2028.
"The coming period is extremely important for Moldova — the period of accession to the European Union. We are very ambitious. The opportunity to join in 2028 means massive reforms, economic development, and, in addition, the future prime minister, together with his or her team, will have to talk about Moldova and Moldovans, about how we develop this country, so that people live at home. The process of accession and pre-accession is complex and multidimensional, with large investments and solid external support. There is much work to do, and the person chosen as prime minister will have a huge responsibility," concluded Vladimir Bolea.
The Constitutional Court will issue a ruling on the validation of the results of the September 28 parliamentary elections on October 16, 2025. Starting from this date, the government led by Dorin Recean will only exercise limited duties until the new cabinet is established. The new parliament will be set up within 30 days, and within a maximum of 10 days after that, the president will designate a candidate for the position of prime minister, who will be voted by parliament. Thus, the new government could be established between October 16 and November 25, 2025.
