Moldova, Romania to implement new mechanisms to fight border crime
Chisinau, July 13 /MOLDPRES/- Prospects of cooperation between the border authorities of the Republic of Moldova and Romania were discussed at a meeting between the head of the General Inspectorate of Border Police (IGPF) of the Interior Ministry, Ruslan Galușca, and Romanian counterpart, Inspector General Cornel-Laurian Stoica, according to the IGPF press release.
During the assessment of the operational situation, the parties discussed the need to implement new cooperation mechanisms to combat cross-border crime. It was proposed to boost joint investigations and improve the exchange of information at all levels of cooperation, including by establishing direct contacts and drawing up a joint plan including measures to counter all illegal activities, in particular illegal migration and smuggling.
Another topic of bilateral discussions was the facilitation of traffic at the common border. It was mentioned that the number of travelers has increased significantly since the summer period, influenced by their planned vacations. The busiest border crossing points remain Leuseni - Albița, Sculeni - Sculeni and Giurgiulești - Galati.
The parties agreed to step up efforts to develop projects of common interest aimed at strengthening institutional capacities to prevent and combat cross-border crime.
