Moldovan Interior Ministry's structures mobilized to ensure public order on 9 May; citizens warned to avoid symbols inciting to war

All structures of the Interior Ministry are mobilized, in order to make sure that the demonstrations organized in the context of May 9 are conducted safely and in a peaceful environment. The institution urges the event’s organizers and participants to comply with the law and avoid promoting symbols that incite to war.

On the eve of May 9, the Interior Ministry (MAI) made a call to all citizens, urging them “to observe the law, enjoy the events peacefully and not turn this day into a cause for division or hatred.”

At the same time, citizens are warned to avoid promoting symbols that incite to war.

“We count on the understanding and maturity of everyone - organizers and participants of the events. We urge everyone not to promote symbols that incite war, not to try to circumvent the law or trigger tensions in society,” emphasized the MAI, in a press release.

According to the cited source, the law stipulates that displaying war-promoting symbols, such as the St. George ribbon, represents an offense. Last year, the police documented 71 such cases.

“The police are only fulfilling their mission - to enforce the law, correctly and fairly, regardless of the context. We all want May 9 to be a moment of unity and reflection, not of challenges,” the MAI added.

Both Victory Day and Europe Day are marked in Moldova on 9 May. According to statistics, last year on May 9, over 470 public events were organized, with about 64,000 people participating.
