PM says Moldova to celebrate victory of peace on May 9

Moldova will celebrate the victory of peace on May 9. Prime Minister Dorin Recean today evening made statements to this effect at the public television station Moldova 1. The PM said that, along with President Maia Sandu and European Commissioner Marta Kos, he would commemorate the victims of the Second World War and celebrate peace.

“Tomorrow, Moldovans, all of us will celebrate the victory of peace. What does this mean? It means that we will commemorate the victims of the bloodiest war in Europe. Many people fought there. Moldovans, Ukrainians, Russians, French, Americans fought. And tomorrow, together with President Sandu, together with President Grosu, and together with Commissioner Kos, we will start the day by laying flowers, traditionally, at the Eternity Memorial; in this way, we will pay tribute to those who died, so that peace could come to the European continent,”  Prime Minister Dorin Recean noted at the show, Good Evening, moderated by  journalist Mircea Surdu.

The PM expressed regret that this day, with such a tragic significance, marking the end of the bloodiest war in Europe, was being exploited to divide Moldova.

“So, tomorrow we will all celebrate peace and commemorate the sacrifices made by many people. I want to tell you that there were tens of thousands of Moldovans who lost their lives in World War II. I regret that today this subject, so tragic, so important, is being exploited, in order to try to divide our country, to divide Moldovans. So tomorrow, Moldovans will commemorate the victims of the Second World War, and tomorrow people of Moldova, people from all over Europe will celebrate peace,” Recean emphasized.

On May 9 in the morning, starting at 8:00, President Maia Sandu, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, Prime Minister Dorin Recean and the European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos, will lay flowers at the Eternity Memorial Complex, in order to mark the Victory Day over fascism and Nazism and in memory of the heroes of the Second World War.

The Europe Day will also be marked on May 9, dedicated to peace, unity and European values. On this occasion, the Delegation of the European Union, in partnership with Moldova’s government, is organizing a large-scale event on the Great National Assembly Square, starting from 13:00.
