15 Model schools to be renovated with support from Council of Europe Development Bank

15 general education institutions in the Republic of Moldova will be renovated and equipped according to the model school concept, as part of a project financially supported by the Council of Europe Development Bank.

A bill for the ratification of the framework loan agreement in this regard was approved on Wednesday by the Government. The document provides for a loan of 30 million euros and supports the objective of the Ministry of Education and Research to increase the quality of educational offerings by expanding the network of model schools at the regional level.

"We have a commitment to expand the network from 35% to 90% of educational institutions. With this additional support of 30 million euros, plus a 5 million grant, we will accelerate the achievement of this goal. Starting in January 2026, the technical design process will start in another 15 institutions, with the investment per school being approximately 2-2.5 million euros," Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun said.

The agreement was signed in Paris on 5 June and in Chișinău on 10 June. The funds will be directed towards modernizing infrastructure and creating safe, modern, and needs-adapted learning spaces for students and teaching staff.

The loan will be disbursed in at least two tranches, the first of which will not be more than 20% of the total value.

The agreement will enter into force after the Council of Europe Development Bank receives notification regarding the completion of Moldova's internal procedures. The term of validity is set until December 31, 2033.

Currently, in the Republic of Moldova, there is a network of 35 model schools, selected by the Ministry of Education and Research. These institutions are located in district centers and will benefit from major renovation, equipped with modern equipment and furniture, within a project supported by the Council of Europe Development Bank, the European Union, UNDP, UNICEF, and other international organizations.
