Over 295,000 children to receive 1,000 lei before new school year

The state will provide a financial aid of 1,000 lei for each child in grades I–IX, starting with the new school year. Speaker Igor Grosu and Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun announced today the launch of a new financial support program for families with school children. The measure is set to be included in the budget adjustment discussed in Parliament this week.

‘This is a new step in our commitment to the families of the Republic of Moldova. This money will be a welcome relief for parents, children, and grandparents to ease the costs of the start of the school year,’ Grosu said.

Perciun said that about 295,000 children will benefit from this measure, and the total amount allocated from the budget is 300 million lei. The financial support will be granted automatically, without parents having to apply, through the National Social Insurance House (CNAS), during the period of September 2–5, 2025.

‘We want it to be a simple and quick process. The children's data will be collected from the Ministry of Education's system and automatically sent to the CNAS. The money will be delivered directly to a card or can be picked up from the post office, similar to the Easter aid,’ explained the minister.

He mentioned that for exceptional situations—such as missing data in the system or recent return from the diaspora—parents will be able to submit physical applications to the CNAS. Authorities estimate that less than 3% of beneficiaries will need this additional procedure.

The official reiterated that this initiative is added to other social measures implemented by the government in recent years, such as: extended free meals from autumn, also for students in secondary school (grades V–IX); the increase of the one-time birth allowance to 21,350 lei; parental leave extended up to one year; investments in nurseries and kindergartens through the 'European Village' project.

‘Support for children and families is not a promise; it is a reality. We continue to work so that every child in the Republic of Moldova has a better future,’ concluded Igor Grosu.

The two officials mentioned that the budget adjustments, which will allow the payment of this aid from September 1, are to be examined at the next Government meeting and approved subsequently in the Parliament session.
