Coordinated control at Cantemir – Falciu border crossing point; Moldovan government approves starting of negotiations
Coordinated control will be implemented on Romanian territory at the Cantemir (Moldova) – Falciu (Romania) railway border crossing. To this end, the cabinet has ruled to initiate negotiations on the Agreement between the governments of Moldova and Romania.
Cantemir-Falciu will be the third point to operate based on the coordinated control concept. The relaunch of this point's work will result in the reopening of the railway corridor, allowing for the interconnection of the railway network in the southern part of the country to the European Union space.
"The initiation of negotiations on the project will generate several benefits, such as ensuring the border security between Moldova and Romania, facilitating and accelerating the transit of goods and people, increasing the volume of imports and exports between the parties, which will contribute to expanding economic cooperation," said Minister of Internal Affairs Daniella Misail-Nichitin.
The initiative was welcomed by Prime Minister Dorin Recean:
"Thus, we increase connectivity in the West, in the European Union, in a way that stimulates trade, particularly exports to the European Union," said Dorin Recean, after the project's approval.
Presently, coordinated control is enforced at the Leuseni-Albita crossing point. At the same time, authorities are set to enforce the same principle of activity at the Galati-Giurgiulesti road crossing point.
