Record investments of three billion lei made in Moldova's hospitals in just four years

Three billion lei has been invested in the modernization and equipping of hospitals from Moldova in the past four years, marking the largest investment in medical institutions to date. Prime Minister Dorin Recean has unveiled data to this effect. He said that Moldovans deserved to benefit from the best treatment conditions and assured that investments in health would continue as the country advances on the European path.

“Moldovans deserve to have treatment conditions like in European countries. There's still much to do in health; nevertheless, in just four years, the most significant renovations and investments have been made in hospitals and medical centers, so many of them now look like those in some European states. Continuing the European direction will ensure we can make even more investments to increase access and quality of health services for all citizens, regardless of which region they live in,” said Dorin Recean.

According to the PM, the investment of three billion lei in hospitals is a record sum for Moldova. At the same time, investments have been initiated in medical institutions from districts, resulting in about 400 million lei being allocated in just one year to the renovation of district hospitals, and the first 95 pharmacies have been opened through the Pharmacy in Your Village programme.

Equally important are the investments in health system’s employees. In this respect, medical staff salaries have increased by 25 per cent, forensic doctors' salaries - by 35 per cent and non-medical staff salaries grew by 85 per cent.

At the same time, 184 new ambulances have been brought in for the Pre-Hospital Emergency Medical Assistance Service, nine maternities of the country have been equipped with modern equipment, nine district hospitals were equipped with medical devices for newborns and the largest Emergency Department of Moldova (at the Institute of Emergency Medicine) has been opened, equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment.

The PM also said that authorities had increased the number of free medications offered by 40 per cent. Statistics data shows that, in 2023, over 800,000 people benefited from compensated medications, up by 20.5 per cent than in 2022.

“It is essential to continue these actions, in order to increase life expectancy, treatment quality and health levels throughout Moldova,” added Dorin Recean.
