Damage recorded following heavy rain in Chisinau estimated at around 17 million lei
Chisinau, August 11 /MOLDPRES/- The damage recorded following the heavy rain on Tuesday evening is estimated at around 17 million lei (850 thousand euros). Chisinau mayor Ion Ceban made the statement today.
According to the mayor, the money will be allocated from the municipal budget following a decision to be approved by the Chisinau Municipal Council. "The damage is still being assessed. The money is needed for interventions, building materials, for repairing roofs, windows and cleaning flooded basements. During yesterday, more than 1200 employees were mobilized, especially in the Ciocana and Râșcani sectors. In the next 2-3 days we will mobilize in the most affected areas, priority on the main streets, we will ensure access to social institutions and the courtyards of the blocks. At the same time, we are going to have discussions with the Builders' Association and with the companies specialized in the sale of construction materials in order to initiate the repair works", said Ion Ceban.
The mayor emphasized that 12 economic agents were contracted to carry out the works, which provided the municipality with additional equipment. "Trucks are used for clearing trees. In the same way, machines are involved in carrying out work in the courtyards of residential blocks. In total, 585 trees were felled, 122 of which were evacuated. At the same time, 56 pillars fell due to the strong wind. We ask the citizens, especially those from the Ciocana and Râșcani sectors, to evacuate the cars from the affected areas, so that the technique can intervene and avoid the risks of damage", he said.
So far, 2.5 million lei have been allocated from the Reserve Fund of the Chisinau municipality to liquidate the consequences of the weather.
