Rectors, experts from seven countries gather in Chisinau for Congress of Black Sea Universities Network
Rectors, vice-rectors, officials and experts from seven countries of the Black Sea region and Europe have gathered in Chisinau for the Congress of the Black Sea Universities Network. The forum represents a platform for discussions on the future of higher education and the role of universities at a time when technologies are advancing rapidly and redefining standards in education and research.
The event is taking place on November 5-6, 2026, at the Technical University of Moldova, with the participation of management of the universities from Moldova.
Speaking at the event, Education and Research Minister Dan Perciun highlighted the role of universities in the current regional context, marked by complex challenges.
"Our region is facing complex challenges, from the war in Ukraine and socio-economic pressures to climate risks in the Black Sea basin and demographic decline. In the context, universities are called upon to provide concrete solutions, while maintaining academic excellence, fostering innovation and supporting communities. We need a common vision that harnesses the diversity of our starting points and opens up new opportunities for practical cooperation," the minister said.
The event will conclude with the adoption of a strategic position paper on University 4.0—the university model of tomorrow. It is defined as an interconnected, open institution actively involved in the community, capable of preserving the strengths of academic tradition and, together with its region of origin, responding to the complex social challenges of the future.
The Black Sea Universities Network is an initiative aimed at developing a platform for dialogue among universities in the Black Sea region, in order to promote academic cooperation, mobility and joint projects.
