National Bee Day marked for first time in Moldova

On 20 May, National Bee Day is celebrated in the Republic of Moldova. This follows the deputies' vote last year on a project to amend the Parliament's decision on commemorative days, holidays.

The proposal to establish the holiday came from beekeepers within the National Beekeepers Association and aims to promote the consumption of honey and apicultural products among the population.

In our country, beekeeping and honey production are traditional activities in most localities of the Republic of Moldova.

"Promoting the increased consumption of honey and apicultural products will, over time, contribute to strengthening the population's health, expanding the market for honey and apicultural products, including the emergence of new collaboration opportunities between economic agents in the Republic of Moldova and other countries, and implementing the most advanced technologies and best practices in beekeeping, honey production, and local apicultural products," explains the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry.

World Bee Day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2017 and is celebrated every year on May 20, aiming to highlight the importance of bees to humanity and the need to protect them, as well as other pollinators that play a crucial role in increasing crop yields and promoting food security.
