MEP: After Nicușor Dan's victory, Romania to continue to be main supporter of Moldova's European integration

Thank you, Republic of Moldova! After Nicușor Dan's victory, Romania will continue to be the main supporter of the European integration of the Republic of Moldova. MEP Siegfried Mureșan conveyed the message today.

The official thanked the people of the Republic of Moldova who understood the importance of the presidential elections in Romania and voted in record numbers for the pro-European candidate.

“Over 157,000 votes, of which 88% were for pro-European candidate. With Nicușor Dan as president, Romania will continue to be the main supporter of the European integration of the Republic of Moldova, as it has been in recent years. After these elections, we will soon have a stable, pro-European government in Bucharest to support Moldova in accession negotiations and in overcoming the challenges it faces,” declared Siegfried Mureșan.

The MEP noted that the Russian Federation tried to influence both last year's presidential elections in the Republic of Moldova and those in Romania this year.

“It failed in both cases. We were united and combated these attempts by Russia to destabilize. I anticipate the same outcome in the upcoming parliamentary elections in the Republic of Moldova,” stated Siegfried Mureșan.

Over 158,000 Romanians voted at polling stations in the Republic of Moldova, marking a historic voter turnout. For comparison, in the first round of the Romanian presidential elections, held two weeks ago, about 91,000 Moldovans with Romanian citizenship voted over three days.

Most voters cast their votes for independent candidate Nicușor Dan. He received 88% or 138,320 votes cast by voters in our country. AUR party candidate George Simion received 18,868 votes in our country, or 12%.

Voters from the Republic of Moldova were among the most active in the Romanian presidential elections, alongside those from countries such as Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and Spain.
