About 170 cycling enthusiasts, from young to old, participated in EuroBike race, second edition, encouraged at the start by local officials and members of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova. The event took place on Europe Day, May 9, when Family Festival, supported by UNICEF, was also organized in Ungheni.
"Entire families came to the start, sending a clear message: cycling is not just healthy, but it's also an important component of urban mobility, a contribution to a non-polluted environment. The youngest participant in the race was Ștefan Mutu (6 years old), and the oldest was Vera Burlacu (76 years old)," according to Ungheni city hall.
Participants had the opportunity to also use bicycles purchased in 2023 as part of Cross-border Environmentally Friendly Transport Development project, funded by the European Union.
EuroBike race was organized by Ungheni city hall in the context of the Improving cycling policies with focus on climate change resilience, accessibility and safety (CycleRight) project, funded by the European Union through Interreg Europe Program.
