Discover Moldova with #MOLDPRES: Orhei National Park, one of most spectacular protected natural areas, open for new summer season

Orhei National Park is one of the two national parks in the Republic of Moldova and one of the most spectacular protected natural areas in the country.

Located in Codri, Orhei National Park offers a unique blend of impressive landscapes, valuable biodiversity, and millennial cultural heritage. Covering an area of over 337 km², the park spans territories in the districts of Orhei, Strășeni, Călărași, and Criuleni and is home to over 700 species of plants and animals – many of them protected by the state.

Orhei National Park is divided into 4 specific zones:

Zone A – full protection zone is the most strictly protected area in the park.

Here human intervention is minimal, only scientific research and monitoring activities of flora, fauna, and habitats are permitted. These measures aim to preserve ecosystems in their natural state and conserve rare species.

Zone B – short-term protection and recreation. Here activities are limited, but traditional forest management under supervision and some educational activities are allowed.

Zone C – recreation zone is intended for ecological tourism, education, and relaxation in nature. Here hiking, cycling, bird watching, guided tours, and picnics in specially arranged spaces are allowed.

Zone D – traditional economic zone includes the villages and households located within the park. Here agricultural, forestry, or craft activities are permitted, but in a traditional and nature-friendly manner.

Through this balanced structure, Orhei National Park becomes an example of coexistence between conservation, responsible tourism, and local development.
