Moldovan speaker attends inauguration of European Town in Căușeni

Speaker Igor Grosu together with European Union Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova Jānis Mažeiks, Căușeni district head Alexandru Catan and EU member state ambassadors inaugurated European Town in Căușeni on 17 May. The event is part of a broader program dedicated to Europe Day, which this year is entitled Peace, Prosperity and Dignity - Europe is You!. 

In his speeh, the official pointed out the projects implemented with EU support in the country, including in Căușeni. They include economic, social, infrastructure development projects, water supply and sewerage, energy efficiency etc.

"The European Union means peace, respect and care for people. Thank you to the European countries that have always come to our aid. Even when our gas and electricity were cut off, our European friends came to help. I wish for us to celebrate together Moldova's accession to the EU," said Igor Grosu.

European Union Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova Jānis Mažeiks said that the EU remains firm in its support for our country, providing assistance and launching Moldova Growth Plan.

"The Republic of Moldova has chosen the path of European integration, a path of peace, democracy, rule of law and economic development. Moldova has chosen well-being by getting closer to the EU. I am glad that today we have a reason to celebrate together Moldova's path to joining European family," emphasized Jānis Mažeiks.

During the event, Grosu accompanied by European officials, MP Artemie Cătănoi and representatives of Căușeni District Council visited the tents of the seven EU embassies present at the European Town - Germany, Denmark, Poland, Romania, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Sweden - and the tents of representatives of 21 EU-funded projects. He also visited local artisans and producers from Căușeni district, appreciating their products, work and skill.

The event also included various creative, educational activities and workshops for all ages, thematic exhibitions and stands. Visitors had the opportunity to interact with representatives of EU countries, learn about European assistance programs for our country, and discover the richness of cultural diversity and traditions of various European countries through embassies. The event culminated with an artistic program supported by local artists and artistic groups from the region.

On 9 May, Europe Day, a similar event was organized in Chișinău. The Parliament of the Republic of Moldova was present both at the European Town in Chișinău and at the one in Căușeni with a stand featuring informational materials. Visitors had the opportunity to learn more about the progress made on our country's European path, the projects implemented with EU support, and the role of the parliamentary institution in the European integration project of the Republic of Moldova.
