Moldovan environment minister proposes new heads for Moldsilva, Environment Agency

Environment Minister Gheorghe Hajder today announced that he would propose the candidacy of Nicolae Munteanu for the position of director of the Moldsilva Forestry Agency and the one of Nicu Belitei as head of the Environment Agency.

Gheorghe Hajder specified that, among the priorities of the new director of the Moldsilva Agency, there would be the reform of the forestry system, the continuation of the afforestation programme and the fight against illegal logging.

“The year 2026 will be the year of reforms. The reform of the forestry system, continuation of the afforestation programme, and combating illegal logging will be the priorities of Mr. Nicolae Munteanu, whom I will propose today for the position of director general of the Moldsilva Agency,” the official said

At the same time, the Environment Agency is also to be reformed, with Nicu Belitei proposed to lead it. The activity of the new director will focus on strengthening the institution, strict monitoring of air, soil, and water quality, as well as reducing waiting times for permits and authorizations.

“Likewise, we will reform the Environment Agency. Strengthening the institution, strict monitoring of air, soil and water quality, as well as reducing waiting times for permits and authorizations. These will be the goals of the new director, Nicu Belitei, whom I will also propose for the position today,” noted Gheorghe Hajder.

The position of director of the Moldsilva Agency became vacant at the beginning of November 2025, after the former head, Victor Durbala, had resigned. At the same time, the Environment Agency has been without a head since the beginning of the current year, after Dorin Poverjuc was appointed director of the Environmental Protection Inspectorate.
