Drivers of vehicles registered in other states to be sanctioned for traffic violations on roads in Moldova

Drivers of vehicles registered in other states will be sanctioned if they commit traffic violations on roads in the Republic of Moldova. This provision is included in a draft law approved today by the Government.

The purpose of the draft is to establish a clear and functional internal regulatory mechanism that will allow cross-border exchange of information on certain violations of traffic rules, detected by certified technical means and which affect road safety.

The Minister of Internal Affairs, Daniella Misail-Nichitin, stated that the draft will allow simpler and faster detection and sanctioning of road offences committed with vehicles registered in other states.

“The initiative will make procedures clearer, help cooperation with authorities from other countries, and ensure fair treatment for all drivers, increasing traffic safety. The draft complements the existing legislation on the exchange of information between states through automated searches in the European driving licence information system. The Ministry of Internal Affairs has already created a national contact point for managing this exchange of information, and the implementation of the draft will not require additional expenditures from the state budget,” said Daniella Misail-Nichitin at the Government meeting.

The draft will be submitted to Parliament for examination and approval.
