Crisis Cell: Embassies maintain direct contact with Moldovan citizens in Middle East and provide consular assistance

The security situation in the Middle East is being continuously monitored by the Crisis Cell of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and so far no casualties have been reported among Moldovan citizens residing in countries in the region.

According to the update issued today, 7 March 2026, by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the monitoring of security developments is carried out through the diplomatic missions of the Republic of Moldova, while the embassies maintain direct contact with Moldovan citizens in the region and provide consular assistance based on the requests received.

In the State of Israel, the security situation remains unchanged compared to the previous update, and Moldovan citizens are urged to follow the instructions of the local authorities and the official communications regarding security measures. So far, no evacuation requests have been registered from Moldovans in this country.

In the United Arab Emirates, essential public services are functioning, and flights from the main airports continue to operate on a limited basis. The Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Abu Dhabi is providing consular support to citizens affected by disruptions to air transport and is maintaining contact with local authorities and airlines to identify options for returning to Moldova.

The situation in the State of Qatar also remains largely unchanged. The country’s airspace has been partially reopened, but air operations continue to be limited. The Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Ankara continues to monitor the situation of Moldovan citizens in Lebanon and is analysing possible transit options for persons who have requested assistance for repatriation.

At the same time, the Republic of Azerbaijan remains an important transit point for foreign citizens leaving Iran. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the land border between Azerbaijan and Iran remains closed to regular passenger traffic, and emergency departures are possible only through prior institutional coordination. Moldovan citizens who may be in Iran are urged to contact the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Baku to coordinate any possible transit or evacuation options. So far, no evacuation requests have been registered from Moldovan citizens in Iran.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends that citizens of the Republic of Moldova in the region avoid non-essential travel, follow the instructions of local authorities, check the status of flights directly with airlines, maintain contact with the diplomatic missions of the Republic of Moldova, and rely exclusively on official sources of information.

The MAE Crisis Cell will continue to monitor the situation on an ongoing basis and will issue further updates depending on security developments.
