Munteanu government promises to speed up process of accession to EU

Prime Minister-designate Alexandru Munteanu today said that Moldova would make intense efforts to accelerate the process of European integration and to quickly initiate technical discussions on accession to the European Union.

‘’We will try to open the technical part as soon as possible,’’ Munteanu said. He  emphasized that the government's priority was to synchronize technical actions with European institutions and to continue domestic reforms.

Designated Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov noted that the country was in the phase of initiating negotiations for each group of chapters.

‘’We are at the stage of opening negotiations on each group of chapters. Each candidate state follows its own path. We will have a parallel path with Ukraine only until the opening of the first chapters, after which each state will follow its own path,’’ Gherasimov stated.

She also said that Moldova had supported Ukraine's European path and the government was making all necessary efforts to advance in technical processes, without relying solely on the symbolic opening of negotiations:

‘’We are working intensively on technical processes; reforms continue at the pace we set. We are not waiting for just symbolic openings, but real progress in implementing reforms and preparing each chapter of negotiation.’’

The process of European integration stays a strategic priority of the new government, and in the governance programme, EU, Peace, Development, the completion of negotiations is planned by the year 2028.
