
Pupils, students of Romany ethnic group from Moldova to be able to benefit from merit scholarships worth 1,200 lei
Chisinau, 27 October /MOLDPRES/ - The students and pupils of Romany ethnic group from lyceums, vocational schools or higher education institutions will be able to benefit from merit scholarships worth 1,200 lei monthly. The cabinet took a decision to this effect today.
Thus, the government established a mechanism of financial motivation of pupils and students of Romany ethnic group, relying on their stimulation for academic performances.
The scholarships will be able to be got by contest, in which people of Romany ethic group with ages between 16 and 25 years will be able to register and who do not benefit from scholarships provided by the state budget.
According to the Education and Research Ministry Dan Perciun, the contest will be organized by the Interethnic Relations Agency and the beneficiaries of merit scholarships will be selected based on the average marks, letters of intent and letters of recommendation. This year, up to 120 people will be able to benefit from scholarships – about 60 ones from lyceums; 15 - from the secondary vocational schools; 20 - from the post-secondary vocational schools and 25 - from the higher education institutions, Minister Dan Perciun said.
The education and research minister informed that 1.5 million lei (75,000 euros) was provided for in the state budget for 2023 to this end.
