Moldova to build regional waste disposal sites to EU standards
Moldova will receive an additional non-reimbursable funding of 600,000 euros for the Solid Waste in Moldova Project. The parliament ratified an amendment to the Grant Agreement signed between the Ministry of Environment and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
With this amendment, the total value of the grant increases to 1.6 million euros.
The funds will be used for technical assistance and consultancy services aimed at supporting the effective implementation of the project.
The EBRD has earlier extended a loan of 25 million euros to Moldova for the development of a solid waste management system. The project aims to implement the national programme in the field, which includes the acquisition of equipment for sorting, recycling and composting, closing illegal waste dumps and building regional facilities compliant with European Union’s standards.
Waste management is a priority of environmental policy of Moldova, guided by EU Directives in the field of waste management.
