Territorial station of volunteer firefighters opened in central Moldova settlement

A new post or rescuers and volunteers, aimed at enhancing community safety and strengthening intervention capacities in case of emergencies, has been inaugurated in the  Zubresti settlement, central Straseni district.

The station in Zubresti will serve four localities – Zubresti, Voinova, Chirianca, and Recea – covering over 12,400 residents. Ten volunteer firefighters, trained by the General Inspectoral for Emergency Situations (IGSU) in fire extinguishing, first aid and intervention in road accidents, will operate here.

"The creation and development of community fire posts represent essential actions in the effort to reduce disaster risks and protect citizens across the country," said  Secretary of State of the Interior Ministry Victor Grosu.

The new building meets European standards and includes a study hall, kitchen, relaxation room, bathroom and necessary furniture. The post has also been equipped with a fire engine donated by Poland, for which a special garage was constructed.

"The opening of this post is not just an investment in equipment or infrastructure, but a direct contribution to citizens' safety, community resilience and our ability to intervene promptly and efficiently in emergency situations," the IGSU head, colonel Aurel Baciu said.

This post is the 81st of its kind in the country and the 22nd based on volunteerism. The construction was carried out through the EU4Moldova Resilience initiative, with financial support on behalf of the European Union, Solidarity Fund PL and local authorities.

The project cost about 3 million lei, of which 1.94 million was provided by Solidarity Fund PL through the Polish Aid programme.
