VIDEO // Patriotism without borders: Moldovan peacekeepers celebrate Independence Day on mission
Even thousands of kilometers away from home, Moldovan peacekeepers on the KFOR peacekeeping mission have celebrated the Independence Day of the Republic of Moldova. Today morning, the military personnel hoisted the State Flag and sang the Anthem of the Republic of Moldova, showing their devotion to the country.
"Thousands of kilometers away, we are united by the same tricolor, the same language and the same love for the country where we were born. Happy Independence Day, Republic of Moldova!", said the military staff.
The Republic of Moldova today marks the 34th anniversary of the proclamation of Independence, voted by the parliament on August 27, 1991. On this occasion, more festive events are organized in Chisinau and other settlements of the country. In the afternoon, three European leaders will arrive in Chisinau: President of France Emmanuel Macron, Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz and Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk.
In the evening, after 20:00, President Maia Sandu, along with the high-level guests, will take to the stage on the Great National Assembly Square to address the citizens. The Independence Day events will culminate with a concert organized in the capital's center.
