Evghenia Guţul sworn in as governor of Gagauzia
Chisinau, July 19. /MOLDPRES/- Elected governor of Gagauzia Evghenia Guţul was sworn in today during a festive event, held outdoors in Comrat.
After taking the oath, Evghenia Guţul delivered a speech to the guests and residents of the autonomy. The governor assured that she will be faithful to all the inhabitants of the region and will keep all her promises, without making any ethnic or partisan distinction. "I will be a responsible politician, for everyone", Evghenia Guţul said.
No official from the country's leadership was present at the event in Comrat. Neither Prime Minister Dorin Recean nor any other representative of the Government will participate in the swearing-in-office event of the new governor of Gagauzia, Evghenia Guțul. The statement was made at the beginning of the day, by Daniel Vodă, the spokesperson of the Executive. "Prime Minister Recean said very clearly that in communicating with local authorities, the Government's main concern will be to support the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, regardless of the localities they come from. We will work closely with the mayors, with the local authorities. The government's goal is to ensure that, regardless of where the people are - from Balti, Taraclia, Cahul, Vulcănești, Comrat, Călărași, or Ungheni, they benefit equally from the support offered by the authorities", said Daniel Vodă.
About 55 percent of the voters of UTA Gagauz-Yeri expressed their choice on May 14 in the elections of the governor of the autonomy. In the runoff voting, Evghenia Guţul, for whom 27,376 voters or 52.36% voted, and Grigori Uzun, who picked up 47.64%, with 24,913 voters voting for him.
