Ministry of Culture launches call for offers to translate national book abroad
Moldovan authors will be able to reach readers from other countries through a new support program for translating and publishing the national book abroad, launched by the Ministry of Culture for 2027. Foreign publishing houses interested in publishing works by writers from the Republic of Moldova can submit their applications until October 26, 2026.
The program aims to support the translation and promotion abroad of works by authors who are citizens of the Republic of Moldova. Eligible works are those written in Romanian, and for authors from minority communities, works written in their own languages may also be accepted.
Priority will be given to contemporary literature, as well as to works by authors who have received major awards, including the European Union Prize for Literature, the National Prize of the Republic of Moldova, the Prize of the Ministry of Culture, and the prizes of the Writers’ Unions of Romania and the Republic of Moldova. Foreign publishing houses may select titles from the indicative list prepared by the Ministry of Culture or may freely propose other books published in Romanian.
The list of eligible genres is broad and includes prose, poetry, drama, reportage, memoirs, diaries, biographies, essays, history books, albums, books for children and adolescents, comics and anthologies. Funding may be granted for both printed editions and e-books. For a translation project, funding of up to 300,000 lei (up to 15,000 euros) may be awarded. A publishing house may receive funding only once within a budget year, and a project may include a maximum of five titles.
At the same time, the beneficiary must provide its own financial contribution of at least 30% of the total value of the project.
Applications may be submitted until October 26, 2026, in physical form at the Ministry of Culture or electronically to the institution’s registry office email address.
