Moldovan PM tells business people government willing to build Europe’s most entrepreneur-friendly country
Representatives of the business community, public authorities, international organizations and academia today gathered for a plenary meeting of the Economic Council, chaired by Prime Minister Vasile Tofan. The discussions focused on the government’s economic priorities, improving the investment climate and measures to support entrepreneurship.
The PM emphasized the essential role of businesspeople in developing the economy and presented the government’s vision for transforming Moldova into an attractive destination for business and investment. Vasile Tofan noted that, given the country’s small domestic market and limited natural resources, Moldova must capitalize on its geographic position and create a competitive economic environment.
“We want to be Europe’s most entrepreneur-friendly country and a platform for companies seeking access to the EU, Ukraine or other larger markets of our region. This vision must unite our efforts and guide all decisions we make. Every new regulation must be assessed through the lens of its contribution to creating the most favorable business environment possible. Only in this way, we can move toward the objective we have set,” the prime minister said.
The PM stressed that achieving this vision depended on translating economic goals into concrete measures and maintaining an ongoing dialogue with the business community, so that public policies take entrepreneurs’ experience and needs into account. In this regard, Vasile Tofan encouraged members of the Economic Council to identify systemic problems affecting companies’ operations and propose solutions, emphasizing that the government was open to listening to and making use of recommendations on behalf of the business community.
The meeting also included a question-and-answer session on topics of interest to business representatives, including streamlining customs procedures, processors’ access to raw materials at competitive prices, tax and commercial regulations, agricultural subsidies, the export of tourism services and startup financing.
