Moldova not taking part in Eurovision Song Contest this year
The Republic of Moldova will withdraw from the Eurovision Song Contest 2025. Director of the national television, Moldova 1 Corneliu Durnescu and the head of the Eurovision Moldova Delegation, Daniela Crudu made the statement on Wednesday.
According to the organizers, the decision was made “following a detailed analysis of the current situation, as well as economic, administrative, and artistic challenges.”
Corneliu Durnescu noted that this year's national selection highlighted certain challenges, including a decline in public interest and in the overall quality of songs and performances. “This caused a negative perception among specialists and the public, highlighting the need for substantial reform in the selection process”, mentioned the director of Moldova 1.
“This decision was not an easy one but was thoroughly analyzed. We all would have liked to organize a national final and designate the song that would represent us on the international stage. However, we are firmly convinced that this decision will boost the interest of participation for future editions. We will make sure to come back strong to Eurovision. It's important to support people who wish to reach big stages and give them the opportunity to prepare better”, the head of the Eurovision Moldova Delegation, Daniela Crudu said.
The Republic of Moldova has been participating in the Eurovision Song Contest since 2005.
