Moldovan speaker in talks with diaspora in Athens
Speaker Igor Grosu had a meeting with Moldovans residing in Athens, Greece. The discussions focused on the progress made by the Republic of Moldova, the fight against criminal groups and propaganda, as well as the concrete steps we are taking to move closer to the European Union.
"In Athens, I met an active, united community of Moldovans with hearts always close to home. The people I met here know what it means to live in a European country and they want Moldova to get there as well – with strong institutions, just justice, and decent living conditions for everyone," said Igor Grosu.
In the last two years, significant agreements have been signed between the Republic of Moldova and the Hellenic Republic. These relate to the mutual recognition of driving licenses and social protection, being signed in the field of social security – for more protection and safety for Moldovans in Greece.
He noted that Moldova is where its people are. "I was glad to see how many Moldovans have succeeded here – with various businesses from beauty salons, dental offices, construction and trade companies. Hardworking, ambitious people, worthy of all admiration! Moldova is where its people are," concluded Igor Grosu.
Grosu is paying an official visit to the Parliament of the Hellenic Republic on June 1-4, 2025, at the invitation of his Greek counterpart. The agenda includes meetings with the leadership of the Athens Parliament – the President of the Hellenic Republic Parliament, Nikitas Michail Kaklamanis, and the first Vice-President of the Hellenic Legislature, Ioannis Plakiotakis, who is also the President of the European Affairs Committee. The program of the visit also includes discussions with the President of the Greece – Moldova Friendship Group, Vasileios Giogiakas, and the members of the Group.
