Moldovan parliament speaker has discussions with Greek counterpart
Moldova and Greece are united by common values and a wish to build a future in peace and security for the citizens. Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu has made statements to this effect during an official visit to Greece, at an invitation by his Greek counterpart, Nikitas Michail Kaklamanis.
The two officials discussed the support provided by Greece to Moldova in more key areas, such as energy, tourism, the Twinning project - which, for two years, will support the Moldovan parliament in the process of approximating the legislation with European law.
"For almost 33 years, Moldova and Greece have built solid bilateral relations and today we see more and more concrete results: the opening of the Greek Embassy in Chisinau in 2024; the launch of multiple direct flights to Athens and starting from this summer - also to Heraklion and Thessaloniki; the signing of agreements awaited by our community – in the areas of social security and driving license conversion. Additionally, Moldovan products are increasingly appreciated in Greece - exports have doubled in the last two years and Greece has reached the top 20 of commercial partners," said Igor Grosu.
Another topic discussed was the domestic situation in Moldova.
"We talked about our challenges, but also about the strong commitment for a better life at home and a safe path towards the European Union. On this way, Greece is and remains a sincere partner and a trustworthy friend of Moldova," said Igor Grosu.
Speaker Igor Grosu pays an official visit to the Hellenic Republic's Parliament on June 1-4, at the invitation of his counterpart. The agenda includes meetings with the leadership of the Greek parliament. The visit’s agenda also includes discussions with the head of the Greece - Moldova friendship group, Vasileios Giogiakas, and its members.
Also, Igor Grosu met Moldovans residing in Athens.
