Romanian Senate's president has meetings with Moldovan lawmakers

Romania maintains its policy of unconditional support for Moldova, a policy based on consensus, continuity and predictability, regardless of internal electoral cycles. A message to this effect today was conveyed by President of the Romanian Senate Ilie Bolojan, who received the delegation of the Foreign Policy and European Integration Commission of Moldova’s parliament at the Palace of Parliament.

According to a press release issued by the Romanian Senate, the meeting reconfirmed the excellent level of bilateral relations between Romania and Moldova, with a focus on parliamentary cooperation and firm support for the country’s European path.

During the discussions, both sides highlighted common priorities, such as: supporting pro-European political forces, advancing the process of integration into the European Union and strengthening the resilience of Moldova in the face of hybrid threats.

"2025 is a decisive year for the European agenda of Moldova. In this context, Romania supports the adoption of an ambitious accession calendar," the Romanian Senate informed.

For her part, Deputy Parliament Speaker Doina Gherman, said that, during the meeting, she had expressed gratitude for the unconditional support provided to Moldova by Romania.

"Today, in Bucharest, we had a very good meeting with Ilie Bolojan. I thanked him for the unconditional support. Regardless of the position he holds, whether as mayor, party leader, or President of the Senate, he is always by our side, ready to help. We discussed solutions for simplifying procedures for obtaining Romanian citizenship, streamlining customs traffic and expanding opportunities for Bessarabian students," said Doina Gherman.

The officials also referred to the political context in both Moldova and Romania.

"We went through electoral processes with major challenges, foreign interference, and unprecedented attacks on national security. We have learned the lessons, we are more resilient and we will continue to work diligently for the European path of   Moldova," noted Doina Gherman.

The agenda of the Moldovan delegation's working visit included discussions with members of the Foreign Policy Commission of the Romanian Senate. Thus, Doina Gherman expressed gratitude for the constant support given Moldova.

"Together we have built roads, renovated schools and kindergartens, connected energy networks and invested in our communities. We will continue, together, to work on the European agenda of Moldova. Our path to the European Union passes through Bucharest. A way which we cover with care for Moldova and on which we proceed more easily alongside good friends," emphasized Doina Gherman.

Several parliamentarians from Moldova are currently on a working visit to Bucharest. The legislative delegation includes deputies Ina Coseru, Chairwoman of the Foreign Policy and European Integration Commission, Veronica Rosca, Chairwoman of the Juridical Commission for Appointments and Immunities, Alina Dandara, Andrian Cheptonar and Vitalie Jacot.
