
Moldovan PM says great composer Eugen Doga to always be remembered through his invaluable works
Prime Minister Dorin Recean has conveyed a message of condolences to the family of Master Eugen Doga. The PM emphasized that the great composer would always be remembered through his invaluable waltzes and over 200 soundtracks for movies, shows and cartoons.
"I was saddened to learn about the passing away of Master Eugeniu Doga. Our great composer will always remain in our memory through his invaluable waltzes and over 200 soundtracks for movies, shows, and cartoons," wrote Dorin Recean.
According to the prime minister, Eugen Doga's works have made Moldova known and loved worldwide, with his music echoing at sports Olympics and hundreds of cultural events.
"The waltz, My Tender and Gentle Beast, the ballet 'Luceafărul' (The Evening Star), the soundtrack from the film 'Lăutarii (The Fiddlers) or the animated movie 'Maria Mirabela', on which he worked alongside filmmaker Emil Loteanu and poet Grigore Vieru, have certainly echoed in every home of Moldova. And they will remain with our nation forever. These are works that have made Moldova known and loved around the world. Condolences to the family and all who cherished him. Smooth flight, Master," concluded Dorin Recean.
Master Eugen Doga, one of the most appreciated and beloved composers of Moldova and the European cultural space, passed away at the age of 88 today.
The head of state, Maia Sandu, sent condolences regarding the passing away of composer Eugen Doga and announced that the day of the great master's funeral would be declared a national day of mourning in Moldova. On this day, the state flags will be flown at half-mast and public institutions and citizens are encouraged to observe a moment of silence in memory of the great composer.
Eugen Doga was a composer, professor, academician, and a significant figure in national culture. Born on March 1, 1937, in Mocra village, Transnistrian region, the departed composer became known worldwide through his musical works, especially the famous Waltz from director Emil Loteanu's film, My Tender and Gentle Beast – considered by UNESCO one of the four musical masterpieces of the 20th century.
Throughout his career, Eugen Doga composed over 200 soundtracks for film and theater, symphonic works, romances, lieder and chamber music. The maestro received numerous awards and honorary titles, but he always remained a modest man, close to people and deeply dedicated to art.
