Well-known Moldovan composer marks 84th birthday anniversary

Chisinau, 1 March /MOLDPRES/ - Composer, People’s Artist, laureate of the National Prize, holder of the Order of the Republic, titular member of Moldova’s Academy of Sciences Eugen Doga turned 84 today.    

In a recent interview given to MOLDPRES, the composer said that 2020 had been a year of great ordeal for him: his concerts, tours, meetings with audience were cancelled. Nevertheless, the master managed to compose more musical works. Thus, last year, his second enlarged and completed two-volume edition of the work, The Dialogues of Love. Arias and sentimental songs with lyrics by Mihai Eminescu and Veronica Micle, appeared.      

The composer said that the poems by Veronica Micle seemed to have been written especially for music.

According to poet Nicolae Dabija, Eugen Doga is an Eminescu of music.  „He is a genius of our music. He is the one who re-brought the poems by Veronica Micle in our times. Eugen Doga is equally famous in Moscow, Brussels, in Bucharest, as well as in other cities of the world,’’ Nicolae Dabija said.  

Eugen Doga was born in the Mocra village, eastern Rabnita district, on 1 March 1937. He finished the Stefan Neaga Music College, the Conservatoire and the Gavriil Muzicescu Arts Institute from Chisinau. He is author of valuable works in the genres of light, film and theatre music. Doga composed a symphony, the cantatas, The Mankind’s Spring and The White Rainbow, music for theatre plays, for more than 200 movies, chamber instrumental songs, sentimental songs, songs for children.    

Composer Eugen Doga was awarded the State Prize, honorific title of People’s Artist, Order of the Republic, Star of Romania in rank of Commander, Romania’s National Order of Faithful Service, the Order For Merit to the Fatherland and Alexander Nevsky of Russia. The composer is the author of the well-known waltz, My Sweet and Tender Beast, nominated by the UNESCO as the fourth music masterpiece of the 20th century.
