VIDEO // Moldovan authorities give assurances about fuel stock levels; Energy minister says Moldova has sufficient volumes current, medium-term consumption
Moldova has sufficient volumes of oil products to cover current consumption and medium-term needs, despite the geopolitical tensions triggered by the conflict in the Middle East. Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu has made statements to this effect, after a meeting held at the government with fuel importers and distributors.
According to the official, the authorities analyzed the situation on the energy market and discussed with economic operators their capacity to ensure a constant supply of oil products, including through access to producers in neighboring countries.
“In the context of the war in the Middle East, we are making sure that the volumes available in Moldova will cover our current and medium-term consumption, in order to maintain all critical services, public services and to have the necessary fuel for citizens,” the minister said.
Discussions with fuel importers and distributors
The meeting at the government aimed to assess the capacity of operators on the oil market to continue imports under stable conditions, in an international context marked by volatility in the energy market.
“Today we had a discussion at the government with importers and distributors of oil products, in order to make sure that they have access to producers in neighboring countries and can import sufficient volumes,” Dorin Junghietu specified.
The minister emphasized that the authorities were closely monitoring developments on international markets, including price fluctuations that may influence local fuel costs.
Price increases on global markets
According to the energy minister, the current trend shows a sharp increase in fuel prices both globally and regionally, as a result of geopolitical instability and international economic factors.
“We are seeing a significant trend of sharp increases in fuel prices, both globally and regionally. We have analyzed certain mechanisms that are to be implemented, so that these increases are as gradual as possible and do not have a direct, immediate impact on consumers of Moldova,” the official said.
At the same time, the minister noted that the evolution of energy prices largely depended on external factors.
“There are things that do not depend on us, especially global prices for energy resources and oil products, but we will do everything that depends on us to maintain a stable supply of fuel and energy resources for the country, for citizens, and for the economy,” Dorin Junghietu stressed.
Authorities investigate fuel sales limitations
In the context of public concerns about possible restrictions on fuel sales, the energy minister drew attention to the fact that the competent authorities had initiated inspections.
“I would like to point out that the Inspectorate for the Supervision of Non-Food Products and Consumers’ Protection is investigating reported cases in which some filling stations are alleged to have limited the amount of fuel supplied to a single person,” the minister specified.
The authorities say they will continue to monitor the oil market and cooperate with economic operators, in order to maintain supply stability and to mitigate the impact of any potential price fluctuations on consumers.
