Agriculture Minister: We are seeking balance in trade with Ukraine without sacrificing quality standards

Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Ludmila Catlabuga provided clarifications today on two pressing topics: the import mechanism for poultry products from Ukraine and the emergency measures to mitigate rising fuel prices. The official emphasized that the Government’s top priority remains food security and the maintenance of high quality standards.

Regarding information spread in the public space about possible blockages or official notifications from Ukraine, the minister stated that “there is no official notification on this subject to the Republic of Moldova. The discussions are, in fact, about an internal Ukrainian draft, which is still in the elaboration phase.”

“Today there will be a meeting between technical experts and farmers from both countries to finalize a clear import/export mechanism for poultry meat and eggs. The Republic of Moldova will not make any concessions on food safety standards, regardless of commercial pressure. The dialogue with the Ministries of Economy and Agriculture of Ukraine continues in order to avoid any ‘inconvenient’ blockage for exporters and to find a balance between the interests of local producers and regional trade flows,” Catlabuga said.

The minister also sent a message calling for calm, assuring that the authorities are seeking a “constructive balance” to gradually unblock the situation, without sacrificing the quality standards that allow Moldovan products to access international markets.

“We want constructive and reciprocal dialogue, with clear data exchanges. If the discussion is about quality and safety, then our authorities will step in immediately to protect consumers and the domestic market,” Catlabuga concluded.
