The General Police Inspectorate (IGP) today was equipped with 17 mobile sectors for field interventions. The donation was made on the basis of a transfer agreement signed between GS Foundation and IGP, with the support of the Government of Germany. These actions are part of the process of institutional modernization and development, aimed at bringing police interventions closer to citizens.
The new mobile units will allow documentation, coordination and management of interventions directly on site, contributing to increased speed and efficiency of police work. The mobile sectors are equipped with modern devices – laptops, printers and Wi‑Fi connection. They enable real-time information processing and intervention management. Thus, police officers will be able to provide prompt support to citizens, without depending on a fixed office.
The handover event for the mobile sectors was attended by Interior Minister Daniella Misail-Nichitin, Head of the National Police Viorel Cernauteanu, Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Germany to Moldova, Dr. Peter Buschmann, as well as Executive Director of GS Foundation Michael Schemke.
Minister Daniella Misail-Nichitin emphasized that the IGP aims, during this year, to expand this concept, so that each territorial subdivision benefits from mobile sectors, which will contribute to the development of a modern police service oriented toward community needs.
“The safety of citizens is built every day through strong institutions and police officers prepared to intervene where people need them. These resources support the work of police officers where it is most needed: in the community, in preventing and combating crime, in documenting interventions and in strengthening institutional transparency. The modernization of the National Police means more than equipment; it means a more resilient institution, more firmly anchored in the community,” said Daniella Misail-Nichitin.
For its part, the IGP’s leadership underlined the importance of the partnership with the Federal Government of Germany, which contributes to the modernization and development of the National Police.
“Through the projects supported by the Federal Government of Germany, we continue to develop a modern police force capable of responding quickly and efficiently to daily challenges. This initiative represents an important step in the institution’s modernization process and in improving the services provided to citizens,” said Viorel Cernauteanu.
Dr. Peter Buschmann also reiterated Germany’s constant support for strengthening the institutional capacities of Moldova’s Police.
In addition to the mobile stations, police officers were equipped with 340 in-car video systems, which allow for documenting interventions and enhancing the transparency of patrol activities, equipment for public communication and information analysis, as well as 30 IT workstations for processing and analyzing data within criminal investigations.
The project, Strengthening National Police of Moldova in Crisis Prevention and Crime Fighting, is one of the most important security programmes between Moldova and Germany, focused on modernizing the National Police, developing community policing and strengthening operational capacities.
Investments in technology and modern equipment help the IGP keep pace with new forms of crime and with the challenges generated by technological developments, while consolidating a more resilient institution capable of responding to current challenges and providing security services that are efficient and aligned with citizens’ needs.
