Moldovan wines win 119 medals at MUNDUS VINI Spring Tasting 2026 international competition in Germany
Moldovan wines continue to stand out on the international stage, winning a total of 119 medals at the spring edition of the prestigious MUNDUS VINI Spring Tasting competition, held in the city of Neustadt an der Weinstraße, Germany. According to the organizers, the record of Moldovan wines includes one Grand Gold medal – the highest distinction awarded in the competition for wines with an exceptional profile – 75 gold medals, and 43 silver medals.
The participation of producers from Moldova was supported by the National Office of Vine and Wine (ONVV), an institution that facilitated the presence of 33 Moldovan wineries at the international competition. Representatives of the institution emphasize that these results help strengthen the visibility and reputation of Moldovan wines on the global market.
The MUNDUS VINI competition is organized by Meininger Verlag and is considered one of the most important wine contests in the world. During the competition, thousands of wine samples are evaluated blind by an international jury made up of oenologists, sommeliers, traders and journalists specializing in the wine sector.
The blind tasting system guarantees the objectivity of the judging process, and the award‑winning wines are recognized for their quality, complexity and distinctive character.
The wine sector stays one of the most important branches of Moldova’s economy, and wine exports continue to play a significant role in promoting Moldovan products on foreign markets. In recent years, the wine industry has recorded steady growth, both in terms of export value and the diversification of sales markets.
According to recent data in the sector, in 2024 exports of wine products from Moldova reached a record level of over 235 million dollars, the highest value registered in the last decade. Compared to the previous year, export revenues increased by approximately 22 per cent, confirming the strengthening of Moldovan wines’ position on the international market.
In total, about 144–145 million liters of wine and other wine products were exported to 73 countries around the world in 2024. An important feature of the recent evolution is the increasingly strong focus on bottled wines, which account for over 65 per cent of total exports and offer higher added value for producers.
The European Union remains the main destination for Moldovan wines, with roughly half of exports going to European markets. At the same time, local producers continue to expand their presence on markets of North America, Asia and other regions, contributing to increased visibility of the Wine of Moldova brand globally.
Data for 2025 shows a mixed trend in exports. In the first seven months of the last year, approximately 73.15 million liters of wine were exported, about 12 per cent less than in the same period of the year before. However, the value of exports decreased by a much smaller margin, reaching around 122.4 million dollars, reflecting the sector’s shift toward higher‑value products and premium markets.
On the whole, Moldova’s wine industry continues to develop, supported both by production modernization and by the international promotion of local wines. The results achieved in recent years confirm that wine stays one of the most competitive export products of Moldova and an important economic and cultural ambassador of the country on the international stage.
