EU market absorbs 69.9 million euros in Moldovan IT exports in first quarter of 2026
Moldova exported IT services worth 69.9 million euros to European Union member states in the first quarter of 2026, up from 68.9 million euros recorded during the same period last year. Globally, exports of IT services totaled 184.1 million euros, compared with 176.4 million euros in the first three months of 2025. Romania, Germany and Belgium were the main destinations in the EU.
According to data available for January–March 2026, exports of IT services to the European market increased by 1 million euros compared with the same period of the previous year, representing growth of approximately 1.5 per cent, according to the National Bank of Moldova (BNM).
At the same time, Moldova’s total exports of IT services increased by 7.7 million euros, equivalent to growth of approximately 4.4 per cent.
Romania was the main destination in the European Union for Moldovan IT services, with exports worth 15.6 million euros in the first quarter of the current year. Germany ranked second, with approximately 10 million euros, followed by Belgium, with 8.3 million euros.
Data for the first three months of the year shows the continuation of trade relations between Moldovan IT companies and their European partners, amid growth in total exports of IT services.
“The developments recorded in the first quarter of 2026 continue the growth trend of the IT sector from Moldova. Between 2020 and 2025, total exports of IT services increased from 226.7 million euros to approximately 742.7 million, more than tripling the value recorded at the beginning of the period. In 2025, the European Union accounted for 38.4 per cent of Moldova’s total exports of IT services, confirming the importance of the EU market for this sector. In addition to Romania, Germany and Belgium, Moldovan companies also provide IT services to other EU member states, such as Cyprus, the Netherlands, Ireland and Italy,” the BNM said.
The IT sector is one of the areas of Moldova’s economy oriented toward international markets, with exports relying on the professional skills and services developed by local companies.
