Moldova joins European High-Performance Computing Joint Undertaking

Moldova joins the European High-Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC), marking a new important step in strengthening the country's position in supercomputing and cutting-edge digital technologies.

The country thus becomes the 37th participating state in EuroHPC - the European network that develops infrastructure for supercomputing, artificial intelligence and quantum technologies.

According to the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization (MDED), Moldova's accession to EuroHPC represents a major step towards integrating into a European research and innovation network that aims to develop supercomputing infrastructure, stimulate scientific excellence and accelerate innovation across the continent.

Joining the EuroHPC opens Moldova access to projects funded by Horizon Europe, next-generation supercomputing resources and the AI Factories network under the Digital Europe Programme.

“We are delighted to welcome Moldova as a new member of the EuroHPC Joint Initiative. This expansion strengthens European cooperation in high-performance computing, artificial intelligence and quantum technologies across the continent,” said Anders Dam Jensen, executive director of EuroHPC.

Deputy Prime Minister Doina Nistor said that joining the EuroHPC Joint Initiative gave Moldova the opportunity to invest in revolutionary technologies, accelerate the research capacity and position the country as a leader in Europe's digital transformation.

Education and Research Minister Dan Perciun said that this step gave access to next-generation supercomputing resources and partnerships that would significantly enhance the country’s research capacity and innovation potential.

The European High-Performance Computing Joint Undertaking is a legal and financial entity created in 2018, in order to enable the European Union and participating states to coordinate their efforts and pool their resources to make Europe a world leader in supercomputing.
