EU reaffirms support for Moldova; MEP says European Union must open negotiations on topic-related chapters

The European Union has reaffirmed its support for Moldova following the pro-European victory achieved by pro-EU parties at the parliamentary elections 10 days ago. Statements to this effect have made statements at the first meeting of the European Parliament Delegation for Relations with Moldova, led by MEP Siegfried Muresan.

According to the source, the meeting was attended online by Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov, who presented the election results and the situation regarding the country's European path.

Muresan congratulated Moldova on its pro-European success and highlighted Russia's unprecedented interference in the electoral process.

"As the delegation's president, I congratulated Moldova on the pro-European victory at the elections, despite the unprecedented interference on behalf of Russia. At the same time, I reiterated the European Parliament's clear position: after the elections, the EU has the obligation to respond positively and accelerate Moldova's process of accession to the European Union by opening negotiations on topic-related chapters," said Muresan.

The discussions were also attended by EU Ambassador to Moldova Iwona Piórko, Moldova's Ambassador to the EU Daniela Morari and the head of the WatchDog organization, Valeriu Pasa, who assessed the election results, Russia's interference, and the next steps in strengthening the EU-Moldova relationship.

The meeting reaffirmed the European Union's commitment to support Moldova in continuing the reforms and European integration.
