EU Ambassador in Chisinau says experience of Moldova provides valuable lessons for democracies worldwide

The example of Moldova in facing recent pressures and challenges provides significant lessons in resilience and democracy for other countries. European Union Ambassador to Moldova Iwona Piórko has made statements to this effect at a meeting of the EU-Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee.

“Both the citizens and the Moldovan authorities have stood firm under enormous pressure and have confirmed the country’s strategic goal of joining the EU. The experience of Moldova provides valuable lessons for democracies worldwide, especially in terms of resilience and the fight against hybrid threats and disinformation,” emphasized Iwona Piórko.

The ambassador thanked the European Parliament's election observation mission, led by Michael Gahler, as well as the European Parliament as a whole, for the constant support provided to Moldova.

“We will continue to stand by Moldova on its way to the European Union, where it so clearly belongs,” added the EU representative.

Moldova has successfully concluded the bilateral screening process with the European Union, a crucial step on its path towards EU accession. During this exercise, experts from Moldovan public institutions analyzed over 100,000 pages of national legislation compared to the one of the European Union.
