Moldova's Energy Ministry: over 60 per cent of actions assumed for integration into European energy market already implemented

Over 60 per cent of the actions assumed for integration into the European energy market have already been implemented, and another 25 per cent are currently being carried out. The Energy Ministry has presented information to this effect, in the context of the meeting of the Sectoral Council for External Assistance in the Energy Field. The event brought together national institutions and key international partners, in order to assess the progress of reforms and strategic projects that are transforming the energy sector of Moldova.

Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu said that reforms were accelerating at a good pace, with an implementation rate of 60 per cent.

“Today we discussed with our development partners an essential issue: how we can accelerate the transformation of the energy sector of Moldova and how we can deliver concrete results for citizens. The reforms are advancing at a good pace. Over 60 per cent of the actions pledged for integration into the European energy market have already been implemented, and another 25 per cent are in progress. In parallel, we are developing energy infrastructure, increasing production from renewable sources and investing in system flexibility,” said Dorin Junghietu.

At the same time, according to the official, the results of the energy transition are becoming increasingly visible. Thus, the installed capacity from renewable sources has exceeded 1,044 MW, and in last May, on one of the days, renewable energy covered more than 70 per cent of the country’s electricity consumption. At the same time, the authorities are also focusing on developing storage capacities, which have already reached approximately 160 MWh.

“But the energy transformation is not just about power lines, plants and European legislation. It also means investing in people. Through such programmes as Casa Verde (Green House), FEERM, EcoVoucher and through training a new generation of specialists for the energy sector, we are building a modern system that will serve Moldova for the coming decades,” the energy minister emphasized.

Also today, in Chisinau, the contract was signed for the design and construction of the 400 kV Balti–Suceava overhead power line. The project will allow the creation of the second electricity interconnection with Romania and will contribute to the integration of the national power system into the European market.
