Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu today had a discussion with President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Odile Renaud-Basso. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Ukraine Recovery Conference – URC2026 in Gdańsk, Poland.

The Moldovan PM expressed appreciation for the constant support provided by the EBRD to Moldova, including during periods marked by energy crises, economic pressures and regional challenges triggered by Russia’s war against Ukraine. The prime minister noted that the EBRD stayed one of the most important strategic partners of the country and a major investor, with an active portfolio of over 1.1 billion euros.

The discussions focused on advancing priority projects and continuing cooperation in key areas for the modernization of Moldova: transport infrastructure, energy security, electricity interconnections, energy efficiency and the green transition, as well as the development of the private sector.

Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu emphasized that the EBRD’s expertise was important for implementing reforms and investment projects under the EU-supported Growth Plan: “Moldova continues to rely on its partnership with the EBRD, in order to accelerate the modernization of the economy, strengthen resilience and move closer to European standards. Investments in infrastructure, energy, innovation and the private sector are essential for a competitive economy and for our European path.”

For her part, Odile Renaud-Basso reconfirmed the financial institution’s readiness to continue backing Moldova through financing, expertise and the mobilization of investments for projects with economic and social impact.
