Moldova hosts second stage of Rugby Europe Sevens Championship
The Republic of Moldova is hosting the second stage of the Rugby Europe Sevens Championship, Trophy Series, the second most valuable competition in Europe. About 400 athletes from 24 countries will play 68 matches at the Dinamo Stadium in the capital.
The competition will be organized over three days, on June 26, 27, and 28, with financial support from the Ministry of Education and Research.
The women's rugby team of the Republic of Moldova will play in a group alongside the national teams of Montenegro, Romania, and Hungary.
According to the Ministry of Education and Research, in the first stage of the continental competition, the women's team finished in 3rd place, while the men's team ended in 12th place.
The top two teams in the overall standings, after both stages are played, will qualify for the 2027 European Games, hosted by Türkiye, where they will compete for spots at the 2028 Olympic Games.
Rugby sevens has been part of the Olympic program since 2016, when it made its debut at the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.
