Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu today had meetings with Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko and Ukraine’s Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture Oleksii Sobolev. The discussions focused on involvement in the reconstruction of Ukraine, improving connectivity between the two states, strengthening regional security and advancing both countries on the path of European integration.

Prime Ministers Munteanu and Svyrydenko welcomed the opening of accession negotiations under Cluster 1 – Fundamental Values and emphasized that the two countries would continue to exchange experience and coordinate in the process of European integration.

The Moldovan PM underlined that Moldova would continue to provide political, diplomatic and humanitarian support, as well as support through concrete projects that contribute to the resilience of the entire region. “Moldova will continue to stand by Ukraine, as it has from the first day of the war. The reconstruction of Ukraine and our European integration are processes that reinforce each other. Through cooperation and joint projects, we can contribute to a safer, more resilient and more prosperous region,” said the prime minister of Moldova.

In the discussion with Minister Oleksii Sobolev, Alexandru Munteanu considered concrete ways in which Moldova can contribute to the reconstruction process. The focus is on modernizing roads and railways, expanding logistical capacities, strengthening energy security and facilitating bilateral trade. The sides noted the importance of safe and diversified transport and energy routes that would more effectively connect Ukraine, Moldova and the European Union.

Among the projects that strengthen the role of Moldova as a logistics corridor and partner in the reconstruction of Ukraine, there are the rehabilitation of the Valcinet–Balti–Ungheni–Chisinau–Cainari railway corridor, part of the Moldova Solidarity Lanes initiative, which contributes to increasing transport capacity and facilitating regional trade flows. Infrastructure projects, such as the Cosauti–Yampil bridge, the Iasi–Ungheni–Chisinau–Odesa motorway and the Galati–Giurgiulesti–Reni initiative are promoted as well.

In the energy sector, priorities remain the consolidation of supply security through the Vertical Gas Corridor and the development of the Balti–Dnestrovsk electricity interconnection, an important project for enhancing energy resilience and integrating regional markets.

The officials highlighted the need to attract investments and involve the business community in reconstruction and regional development projects, including through the trilateral Moldova–Ukraine–Romania format: the Odesa Triangle.

The parties agreed to continue coordination, in order to advance common projects and to make use of the support provided by European partners and international financial institutions in the process of reconstruction and development of the region.
