U.S. Government launches new project meant for future technologies in Moldova
Chisinau, 17 November /MOLDPRES/ – The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) today officially launched a new programme, Moldova – Future Technologies Activity. On this occasion, a news conference was held with the participation of USAID Administrator Samantha Power and Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita.
„The United States of America has proved support for Moldova in the last years, estimated at more than one billion dollars. It is about an essential multidimensional support, on different sectors of activity important for our country. The USA will further provide us with assistance, within a development strategy or the citizens of Moldova will have access to projects on strengthening the participatory democracy and economic development,’’ Natalia Gavrilita said.
For her part, Samantha Power gave assurances that the American Government and nation were by the side of Moldova, which had chosen the way of democracy and development, providing the needed support for the opportunities to this end. ‘’The new USAID initiative, with a duration of five years, is meant to continue the activities undertaken by the organization, in order to enhance the competitiveness of the strategic economic sectors of the country and is set to promote a digital, creative and circular economy,’’ Samantha Power noted.
The Future Technologies Activity (FTA) will be the catalyst of the process of modernization and innovation of the following sectors: information and communication technology (ICT), engineering, light industry, creative industries and digital media.
Also, FTA will continue the activities implemented in the last 15 years with USAID’s assistance, in the sector of competitiveness of Moldova’s strategic economic sectors and come as a response to the global tendencies of digitalization and innovation. FTA will create opportunities for young people, investments and partnerships and the technology and innovation from all sectors will propel the Moldovan businesses towards future.
The initiative will contribute to improving the legislative framework, in order to provide facilities and enhance the local and international competitiveness of the ICT industries for a more efficient and competitive work, nationally and internationally, of the ICT industries, engineering light industry, creative industries and digital media, which will stimulate the development of the future technologies, which are at the basis of the digital economy.
At the same time, FTA will stimulate enterprises to adopt technologies which enhance the productivity and implement the innovations which are at the basis of the digital economy, turning to good account the creativeness, know-how and technologies for a sustainable growth. Also, the project is set to help companies make the transition to models of sustainable business, circular economy and to enforce ecological practices and technologies, in order to edify a robust economy and society in Moldova.
