BTA: Chef Nikolay Genchev Takes First Place in National Paella Championship in Burgas
Chef Nikolay Genchev has won the national qualification for the World Paella Championship, World Paella Day 2026, and will represent Bulgaria at the finals in Valencia on September 20. The competition was a key highlight of the third and final day of the 2nd International Sole Festival in Burgas on June 21.
“Last year I came in second place. This year I worked, studied, and trained to reach first place," Genchev said, adding that he loves Spain and paella, and will do everything to represent Bulgaria honorably. He thanked his family and friends for their support and noted that, besides his love for Spanish cuisine, he also has a strong passion for music. To prove that, he sang a part of the song “Desperado”.
The 2nd International Sole Festival in Burgas offered residents and visitors of the city a variety of events combining music, cinema, art, and gastronomy. Visitors had the opportunity to watch live paella cooking demonstrations, as well as masterclasses led by international and Bulgarian chefs. The festival programme featured concerts by Spanish and international artists, screenings of a selection of contemporary Spanish cinema, as well as exhibitions and artistic installations aimed at cultural exchange between Bulgaria and Spain.
